Friends: Joey’s Exes, Ranked By Intelligence | ScreenRant

Joey might be seen as the least intelligent member of the main characters in Friends, but that doesn't mean that all of his romantic partners weren't smart. Joey is notorious for being a flirt and because of that, he dates a lot of different characters throughout the series. While many of his relationships are short, Joey does manage to have some more long-lasting and impactful relationships throughout the show, as well.

Joey has a big personality, and his romantic partners often meet him in the middle on that level. But when it comes to intelligence, there has been a real variety throughout Joey's love life. Some of his partners have been incredibly clever, while others have lacked intelligence, and he has mixed results in terms of happiness with them all.

10 Erika

Erika was certainly the least intelligent person that Joey ended up dating, with Joey even finding her a little strange at points. Erika wasn't able to separate Joey from the Dr. Drake Ramoray character that he played on TV, and during their time together, she actually thought Joey was Drake.

It was quite a strange storyline, but it clearly showcased that Erika wasn't that intelligent, as she didn't seem to be aware that what she saw on television wasn't actually real life, not understanding that actors are a thing.

9 Katie

Katie ends up being one of Joey's least likable partners throughout the show, mainly because of how aggressive she was towards him, and at points, to Rachel, as well. It's a clear sign that she's not that intelligent, considering she's not aware of how much her punches hurt Joey.

She's very talkative and happy to chat, but that doesn't make her intelligent. She's unable to see how her actions are annoying or can be seen as rude, continuing the action no matter what, which isn't very smart.

8 Melanie

Melanie is someone that Joey only dates for a very brief period of time, and while she is shown to be a kind and considerate person, she's not exactly the smartest person that he dates over the course of the show.

She's very over-the-top with her behavior, and does act quite childish at points with how giddy she is about things. But ultimately, her intelligence isn't fully explored, simply due to the fact she's not in the show for long enough.

7 Ursula

Ursula and Joey have a brief period of dating, but he ends up calling an end to things because his friendship to Phoebe is more important. Ursula is very similar to her twin, and not just in appearance. Ursula is someone who can come out with some wise observations, but overall she is not that smart.

Phoebe is certainly the smarter of the twins, as Ursula is often confused by things, asking plenty of questions as she doesn't understand certain topics. She is quite an eccentric character, but she isn't one of the smartest.

6 Kathy

Kathy initially starts out as a very popular character, until she makes the decision to cheat on Joey with Chandler. While Kathy is seemingly quite intelligent up until that moment, her decision to cheat on Joey with his roommate and best friend isn't exactly a smart choice.

She instantly knows that she's made a mistake, though, and overall, Kathy is a fairly smart character. When she's with Joey the two of them get along well, and while it's clear she's more intelligent than him, they do appear to be happy enough together.

5 Rachel

The relationship between Joey and Rachel is one that is quite controversial amongst Friends fans. Some people absolutely loved the relationship and felt they were right together, meanwhile, there were others who hated the idea of them becoming a couple.

When it comes to her intelligence, by the time that Joey and Rachel date, she has seriously matured and is thriving in her career. Rachel may still have a few gormless and ditzy moments, but ultimately by this stage in her life, she is very smart.

4 Janine

Janine is one of the least likable characters that any of the main group dates, mainly because she openly admits to not liking Monica or Chandler. And while her decision to offend Joey's best friends isn't the smartest decision for keeping a long-term relationship, overall, she is a smart character.

Janine is intelligent enough with her communication and how she is shown throughout the series. She is able to teach Joey about emotions and opening up to the feminine side of his personality, being smart enough to know that doesn't affect his masculinity at the same time.

3 Cecilia

Cecilia was a fun personality for Joey to interact with and the two of them had some great scenes during their time together. Because she's a little older than Joey, she benefits from experience, and she is always happy to pass that on to him, especially when it comes to acting.

Joey learns a lot during his relationship with Cecilia, which showcases her intelligence. She always seems to be very aware that Joey isn't that smart, which is why she always gives him so much advice, but it is also because she is simply a clever person herself.

2 Erin

Erin is one of Joey's partners that is shown in a very positive light during her time on the show. Joey isn't the only person who loves her, with both Phoebe and Rachel also being big fans because Erin is a lot of fun.

However, while she has a great personality, she is also a very intelligent character. It is revealed she can speak four languages during the show, which is certainly very impressive, and aside from that, she does prove herself to be smart when talking with the rest of the group and during their interactions.

1 Charlie

Charlie is certainly the smartest character that Joey dates on the show and she is one of the most intelligent people to be part of the series. Because of this, things never quite seem like the right fit between them, with Charlie clearly having similar interests to Ross, rather than Joey.

While Joey and Charlie might be attracted to each other, they often lack things to talk about and don't have meaningful conversations because they're so different from an intellectual standpoint.
