Last Of Us Tommy Voice Actor Joins HBO Max Series In Different Role

Jeffrey Pierce, the voice actor who played Tommy Miller in The Last of Us video games is making the leap over to the HBO Max live-action series in a different role. Apart from providing voice and motion capture for other games such as the Call of Duty franchise, Pierce also has a long list of television credits appearing in shows such as Castle Rock, God Friended Me, and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. In the Last of Us games, Pierce plays the younger brother to the game’s protagonist Joel.

The Last of Us is currently filming in Canada with The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal and Game of Thrones’ Bella Ramsay as lead characters Joel and Ellie. While Tommy’s role is being played by Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s Gabriel Luna, Deadline reports that Pierce will be joining the cast in a recurring role as Perry, a rebel in a quarantine zone. Joining Pierce in the new series are also two other video game castmates, Nico Parker and Merle Dandridge.

While live-action video game adaptations are a notoriously difficult nut for studios to crack, the sheer volume of narrative content available from the games should provide HBO Max with plenty of material to work with. Coupled with the fact that the The Last of Us creator Neil Druckmann is also directly involved with the show's development, fans of the game have every reason to be confident the show will be a success. The decision to incorporate the same talent which helped make the original games so successful only helps to reinforce that confidence. While there is no official release date planned, fans are expecting the series to hit HBO sometime late in 2022.
