Stargirl Season 2: Release Date & Story Details | Screen Rant

The first season of Stargirl came to a triumphant conclusion, but what can fans expect to see in season 2? Speculation has run rampant since the first season finale aired in the summer of 2020 and while a trailer has revealed the arrival of new heroes like Jade and the Thunderbolt, fans still have little idea what to expect from the smash-hit series.
Based on the Stars and S.T.R.I.P.E. comics of Lee Moder and Geoff Johns (who based the character of Courtney Whitmore on his sister), Stargirl told the story of one teenage girl's search for identity as she embraced a long-neglected legacy of heroism. Bucking the deconstructionist bend of shows like The Boys, Stargirl was earnest and optimistic. This won Stargirl the adoration of a loyal audience, earning it a 91 percent Fresh rating with critics and an 81% positive fan rating on Rotten Tomatoes.
Stargirl proved so popular that The CW, who originally opted to air it as a summer replacement series along with an edited edition of DC Universe's Swamp Thing, arranged to be the sole distributor of the series starting with season 2. This move has worried some fans, who fear that Stargirl will be forced to operate on a smaller budget than it enjoyed as an original series for the now defunct DC Universe streaming service. It is too early to tell one way or the other what effect the change in networks may yield, but it should be noted that most agree that Supergirl's jump from CBS to The CW after one season had relatively little effect on the show's quality. Here's what's known so far about Stargirl season 2.
Stargirl season 2 will premiere om Tuesday, August 10, 2021, airing at 8 PM EST on The CW, in the time slot currently held by The Flash. The second season will have 13 episodes in total, with the Stargirl season 2 finale airing on November 2, 2021. New episodes will be released on The CW website and app on the Wednesday mornings following the episode's broadcast release. Stargirl was renewed for season 3 already, but there is no word on when that will begin filming or be broadcast.
The finale of Stargirl season 1 opened many avenues for future storylines. In the wake of the Injustice Society's defeat, Courtney Whitmore's biggest challenge may lie in helping her teammates keep it together in the face of their own traumas and holding the team together. The new Hourman, Rick Tyler, seems to have made peace with his parents' deaths but Yolonda Montez, the new Wildcat, seems to be withdrawing deeper into herself after killing Brainwave. Perhaps the most troubled of all is Beth Chapel, who lost her best friend and her main means of contributing to the team with the destruction of Doctor Mid-Nite's goggles and the onboard AI "Chuck".
The fate of the Injustice Society seems equally uncertain. While most of the team died in their battle with Stargirl and her allies, The Gambler was able to make his escape. Tigress and Sportsmaster were arrested and are still locked up according to the Stargirl season 2 teaser trailer, but Shiv was shown to have escaped and to have armed herself with the Eclipso diamond; an artifact of great power from the comics. It seems likely Shiv will try and form her own Injustice Society with the other surviving children of the original Injustice Society members.
The finale also introduces an interesting wild card in the form of The Shade, who was shown to be watching the news of the Injustice Society's defeat and muttering, "Oh, Jordan. I told you it was folly," to himself. While not a hero, The Shade did serve a mentor role to the seventh Starman, Jack Knight, in the 1994 Starman comic series. It remains to be see if he will fulfill a similar role for the new Justice Society, but it does not seem likely based on the Stargirl season 2 teaser trailer, where an incredulous Shade asks Pat Dugan, "Don't you teach these children any manners?"
