Chewbacca Fights Boba Fett in Star Wars' War of the Bounty Hunters

As the Star Wars crossover event War of the Bounty Hunters continues, Chewbacca will soon go up against Boba Fett. The Wookie has a lot of reason to fight the bounty hunter after what he did to his friend Han Solo.
When Han Solo’s carbonite frozen body was auctioned off by Crimson Dawn, the Hutts ended up placing the winning bid. As the rebels attempted to recover their friend, things didn’t go as they hoped. Darth Vader showed up on the scene, initiating a fight with Qi’ra as he had his own reasons to want Han in his possession. However, arguably the two people who have the most to lose are Han’s furry companion, Chewbacca, and the bounty hunter who lost his cargo, Boba Fett. As Boba needs to make amends with Jabba the Hutt, the Wookie just wants his best friend back. Their individual loyalties are put to the test in Star Wars: War of the Bounty Hunters #3, written by Charles Soule with art by Luke Ross, and a cover by Steve McNiven.
As revealed on StarWars.com, after Darth Vader crashes the auction of Han Solo held by Qi’ra, Chewbacca sees his chance to get back at Boba Fett. When Boba refers to Han as “a thing,” it’s enough for Leia and Chewie to get aggressive. Before Chewbacca attacks, the bounty hunter reveals he’s fought other Wookies before and has won, taking their braids as a prize. “You see these? Maybe they look familiar. Maybe they’re your uncles, your aunties. You’re not the first Wookie I’ve fought. Now you know what happens when I do.” Chewie growls and proceeds to choke Boba Fett, going off the additional motivation he unintentionally gave him.
Boba Fett probably should’ve been warned that it also isn’t the first time Chewbacca has fought a bounty hunter. In Bounty Hunters #13, Chewie fought Beilert Valance, showing his raw physical strength in action. It’s been established that the Wookie can effortlessly pull someone’s arms off, which should even make armored bounty hunters worried. When Chewie encounters him again in Return of the Jedi, Boba is probably nervous under his helmet. Lando even gives the Wookie permission to murder Boba Fett on the spot, but inevitably there will be an interruption that leaves room for their next meeting.
Now that it’s been revealed that Boba had already crossed paths with Chewie before Jabba’s Palace, there could be precedent for a new reason the bounty hunter went down so comedically. Since Boba was off his game during their second encounter, knowing that Chewie wouldn’t show mercy again could have been a factor. It’s interesting to note that in The Empire Strikes Back, Boba Fett had a chance to shoot Chewbacca while Han was being frozen in carbonite. However, Darth Vader prevented him from taking the shot. In retrospect, if Boba Fett had killed Chewie back then, it wouldn’t have cost him his life down the road. The bounty hunter and the Wookie face off for the first time in War of the Bounty Hunters #3 releasing on August 18.
