Gran Turismo 7 Unveils Custom Porsche Created Exclusively For The Game
Ahead of the release of Gran Turismo 7, developer Polyphony Digital has announced a new partnership with Porsche, one that will see the addition of a custom, wholly unique Porsche vehicle created specifically for the upcoming game. Gran Turismo and Porsche have been working together for many years, bringing iconic cars to the classic game series, but this will be the first time a Gran Turismo title features an entirely new Porsche.
The Gran Turismo games are widely regarded as some of the best racing simulators available on PlayStation, and with Gran Turismo 7 just a few months away, excitement for the release has arguably never been higher. While the title is coming to PS4 as well as PS5, the game is aiming to make the most of the new-gen capabilities of Sony's latest hardware, aspiring to offer the most realistic driving experience to date. Players can expect Gran Turismo 7 to almost feel like real driving, with 3D audio and the help of the DualSense controller, which will reportedly allow users to feel different racetrack surfaces at their fingertips through its haptic feedback.
Announcing the news in a press release, Polyphony Digital has officially revealed the Porsche Vision Gran Turismo, a Porsche created solely for the virtual world of Gran Turismo 7. The vehicle, designed by Porsche itself, uses many familiar design elements from the brand with a futuristic spin, featuring a sporty height-to-width ratio, low-set bonnet, and pronounced wings. Porsche fans may recognize the unique vehicle's nods to other classics from the company, including the Taycan and the 911. Even the interior of the Porsche Vision has been meticulously created, with a "curved hologram display, tailored to the driver, which appears to float above the steering wheel." As expected, the DualSense haptics will help bring the design to life, with the controller designed to work with the car to "mimic the feel of the steering wheel."
Players might not be able to get their hands on the Gran Turismo 7 car in real life, but that doesn't mean the engineers at Porsche have put any less thought into its design than they might a real vehicle. The Vision may only be a virtual car, but developers at Porsche considered the carbon and titanium materials it would use with the aim of reducing weight while increasing performance, and even considered the sustainability of the design. According to the press release, the concept car is made entirely of vegan materials, despite not being real.
The new Porsche collaboration should give Gran Turismo fans another reason to be excited for the next addition to the series. While players are often able to tweak and tune in-game cars, adding liveries and custom skins to create unique designs, in-game cars are typically modeled after real-world counterparts, and not designed purely for the game. The Porsche and Gran Turismo 7 partnership paves the way for future custom cars, which could help make Gran Turismo 7 one of the most unique racers on the market.
Gran Turismo 7 will release on March 4, 2022 for PS4 and PS5.
