The Big Bang Theory: 10 Storylines The Show Dropped | ScreenRant
The longer a sitcom runs, the more storylines are dropped or often forgotten. For The Big Bang Theory's 12 seasons, there were plenty of endeavors, interests, and even characters that were slowly dropped from the show without fans noticing until they rewatch the series.
Sheldon and co. have been through so much in the sitcom that it's easy for things to be swept under the rug without much of a mention, but there comes a time where one has to ask why a storyline was dropped. TBBT fans are dying to know what happened to Penny's shoe app, Anything Can Happen Thursday, and a certain doggie named Cinnamon.
10 Whatever Happened To Penny's Hair Accesorries?
In "The Work Song Nanocluster," Penny dabbles in entrepreneurship when she starts making her own flower berets and calls them Penny Blossoms. She said people loved them so much that a local shop was going to sell them for her on her behalf.
Sheldon knew Penny needed help, so he gave her the basics of running a company. Leonard, Raj, and Howard soon joined in and put together thousands of Penny Blossoms for orders. Outside of this episode, however, this was the only time fans heard about Penny Blossoms. Did Penny's passion fade?
9 Leonard's Long Dream Of Writing A Book Disappeared Overnight
Penny finds out that Leonard had a long-lasting dream of writing a novel in "The Novelization Correlation." He began spending time writing a mystery novel, but when his friends read it, they were trying to find out who Leonard based the antagonist on.
Penny and Bernadette were the top choices but by the end of the episode, Leonard realized it was subconsciously about his mother. This idea freaked him out and made him stop writing the book. Does that mean this dream of his died overnight? Why couldn't he change it up and start writing a new mystery not involving his mother?
8 The Forgotten Shoe App
For as "dumb" as the group tends to make Penny feel, she's had some pretty ingenious ideas. Not only did she create Penny Blossoms but she also had an idea for a shoe app.
In "The Bus Pants Utilization," Penny thought of an app where people can find out where a shoe is from by taking a picture of it. The app will then assess the image and tell the person where to find the shoe. Once again, Sheldon helped his BFF with her idea but that was the last viewers heard of it. Penny's grand idea went nowhere.
7 The Idea Of Tenure Was Forgotten After One Episode
When a spot at Caltech opened up for tenure, Sheldon, Leonard, Howard, and Raj all applied for the opportunity. Getting tenure at such a young age at a prestigious university could do wonders for their careers.
Throughout the episode, all of the men go head-to-head to come out on top but by the end of the episode, viewers never find out who got tenure! What's worse is that it's never mentioned again.
6 Did Sheldon Ever Become A "Mommy?"
Sheldon had a severe fear of birds in "The Ornithophobia Diffusion." This was made apparent when a blue jay refused to leave his window. Things became dramatic when the bird flew into the apartment and Sheldon had no choice but to face his fear and become friendly with it.
By the end of the episode, Sheldon revealed to Leonard that he was going to be a "mommy" because he found an egg left behind from the blue jay. But this egg was never seen or talked about in later episodes.
5 Where Did Cinnamon Go?!
When Raj was overcome with grief after a breakup, Bernadette and Howard bought him a dog to make him happy again. Raj named her Cinnamon and she soon became a large part of his life. He loved her so much that she received the same treatment as most of his girlfriends.
Oddly enough, once Bernadette became pregnant, Cinnamon stopped popping up. Where did she go? She was such a large part of Raj's daily routine and all of a sudden she disappeared.
4 Did Penny Graduate College Or Not?
When Penny was getting her life in order, she started taking a few classes at the local community college to see what her passion was. She was surrounded by men and women who loved what they did for a living and wanted the same kind of experience.
Amy, Bernadette, and Leonard all helped Penny with her school work but as always, this part of her life slowly stopped coming up. No more papers, no more meetings with other students... Did Penny stop going to class or did she graduate?
3 Anything Can Happen Thursday Died Off
Anything Can Happen Thursday is something that was brought up in the second and seventh seasons but never again. It was a way for the group to get out of their comfort zone and to try something new.
In "The Anything Can Happen Recurrence," it became obvious that the reason they stopped doing them is because they ran out of ideas. But if this was a weekly routine — and everyone knows how much Sheldon loves routines — then why did they stop?
2 Are Fans Supposed To Forget About The Duchess?
In "The Relationship Diremption," Sheldon says in a silly voice "Oh, Duchess, look at me. My quantum gravity’s positively loopy!" Penny asked who the duchess was and Leonard said it was one of the characters who lived in his head.
Why has this never been brought up again? What's stranger is that in "The Relaxation Integration," viewers are introduced to the different Sheldons in his mind and not one of them was named Duchess.
1 Was The Show Tired Of Alex?
Alex Jensen appeared in the sixth season as Sheldon's assistant. He really needed additional help and Alex fit the role perfectly. However, conflicts of interest arose after she showed a personal liking towards Leonard. She was a fun addition to the show but she disappeared as quickly as she showed up. No one knows what happened to her.
