Supercrooks Live-Action Series Ordered by Netflix | Screen Rant

Netflix has ordered a new live-action TV series adaptation of Mark Millar’s Supercrooks, set in the same shared universe as Jupiter’s LegacyIn 2019 the streaming giant acquired the Millarworld comic label started by renowned comic artist Mark Millar in 2004. Boasting twenty different franchises under the Millarworld label, the purchase rapidly boosted Netflix’s library of potential material as it sought to capitalize on the growing market of comic book adaptations.

Following on from this year’s release of their first Millarworld adaptation, Jupiter’s Legacy, Deadline is reporting that Netflix now has its sights set on a live-action adaptation of the interconnected Supercrooks property based on a heist story featuring eight supervillains. In March last year, Netflix had also announced an anime series based on the same property, which is planned to be previewed at this month’s Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Meanwhile, it also appears that Jupiter’s Legacy will not be continuing forward, as they have allowed the cast, led by Josh Duhamel, out of their commitments for another season. Millar himself has commented on the move:

Jupiter’s Legacy is a vast and rich space with lots of characters to mine, and so I’m happy to share that our next step here is a live-action version of the Supercrooks comic I created with Leinil Francis Yu a few years back. Given where we’re going next, we’ve made the tough call of letting our incredible cast out of their show commitment as we continue to thoughtfully develop all realms of the Jupiter’s Legacy saga. We’re confident we’ll return to it later and just want to say thanks to you guys for your continued support and to the cast and crew who made this look so great.

Given the problems encountered during production on Jupiter’s Legacy, with the series creator Steven S. DeKnight departing mid-way through production due to creative differences and the need for extensive reshoots, it is probably not surprising that Netflix is looking to move on from the series. Given the wealth of material in the Millarworld portfolio now available at Netflix’s fingertips, fans should keep their fingers crossed this new series will have a much smoother journey. In the meantime, fans will have their chance to check out the anime version of Supercrooks first when it debuts later in the year.
