Fluss is the envoy of a genocidal state
AND we devote a front-page article, and another yesterday — plus a full-page paid article on Israel — to Israeli Ambassador Ilan Fluss praising his government and his stint here in the Philippines?
Are we living in the same world? Aren’t you aware even of just the earthshaking things that have been happening in the world? Or have you simply lost all sense of morality? Would we allow an advertorial and write glowing articles on Kim Jong Un, the dictator of North Korea — which at least isn’t a genocidal state — if his minions asked for it?
Indeed, the Israeli genocide of Palestinians — now numbering 50,000 with 70 percent being women and children — a campaign to totally drive away Palestinians from their remaining homeland in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank — has been called the “moral issue of our era” which humans must condemn, not ignore. (The prestigious medical journal Lancet suggested in a study that the true toll, including indirect deaths from starvation and disease, could exceed 186,000. The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor estimated 118,908 deaths by October 2024).
Past such moral issues have been the Spanish Civil War, the genocide by the Nazis of 7 million Jews, the Vietnam War, and the more recent genocide of their own people by the Cambodian Khmer Rouge.
What makes the Gaza genocide so despicable is that the daily bombing of area that kills at least a hundred Palestinians daily, the rushing by Palestinian fathers of fatally wounded children to hospitals, the emaciation of kids who have had nothing to eat for weeks, are shown to us, in all its horrific vividness, through television.
Every day since Israel started its war on Hamas, now to include all civilians, unbiased media like the crowd-funded Democracy Today and Al Jazeera have streamed to us brutal images of the slaughter. As humans, we cannot pretend this crime against humanity doesn’t exist.
Nazis
This wasn’t so in the case of past genocides, with Nazis keeping the Holocaust a secret, with the death camps located in remote areas of Germany and with their technicians unsuccessfully trying to reduce the millions of Jews they gassed into ashes, unrecognizable as human corpses. The Khmer Rouge closed its borders, so that its genocide of its own people was discovered only after it was toppled.
Even Israeli soldiers themselves have been sharing videos in TikTok, X and Facebook showing them jumping in glee as they bomb Gaza buildings, vandalize Palestinian homes and mockingly wear the underwear of Gaza women.
The world has gone past the Israelis’ empty justification that their genocide is in retaliation for 736 Israeli civilians and 379 security forces killed by the Hamas in their raid into Israeli territory on Oct. 7, 2023. It’s really no longer revenge but an excuse to kill all Palestinians if they refuse to vacate their homeland.
How that raid by a thousand Hamas militants, planned for months, escaped the knowledge of the world’s best intelligence organizations — the Mossad (the Israeli CIA), the Aman (military intelligence) Shin Bet (internal security) — is a question Prime Minister Netanyahu hasn’t explained, saying nearly two years ago that that question would be investigated and handled only when the war is over.
How can they justify the killing of 50,000 mostly unarmed Palestinians, 70 percent women and children, to retaliate against the killing of 1,000 Israelis?
Netanyahu
There are reports that Aman had warned Netanyahu about the impending attack, but he ignored it so that he would have the excuse to retaliate against the Palestinians — which would save his steeply diving political stature, with corruption charges hurled against him. Indeed, more and more analysts — unable to comprehend Netanyahu’s determination to remove from the Gaza Strip all Palestinians, despite world opinion — are calling him the Mad Dictator.
Yet Fluss thinks Filipinos are stupid when he said in the paid Manila Times advertisement, “Israel will continue to do good to the world, and be a light to nations.” He is the only Israeli official so arrogant to have said that. “A light to the nations”? The only light identified with the Israelis now are the explosions of their bombs on civilian buildings.
It is so nauseating for Fluss to end his message in the paid advertisement quoting an ancient Jewish prayer: “May he who makes peace in the heavens grant peace to us and all our people.”
In the 20,000 words that made up Fluss’ paid advertisement and the front-page article on him, he never mentions that Israel has killed 50,000 Palestinians, only that “1,200 people were murdered by Hamas in their homes.” What intellectual dishonesty!
Child killers
For its genocide in Gaza, never will Israel be known as a force for peace, but only as a nation of ruthless, merciless soldiers, the killers of 17,000 Palestinian infants and children. There would be tens of thousands more, as an emerging Israeli strategy has been to stop food supplies from various countries and the UN from entering the Gaza Strip. The deaths of Palestinian children from starvation, malnutrition and disease would run to at least a hundred thousand, the worst such case of pedicide in modern history.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres wasn’t exaggerating when he said: “Gaza is becoming a graveyard for children.” Watch the Al Jazeera documentary (posted in YouTube) “Kids Under Fire: An investigation into Israeli soldiers shooting children,” and I guarantee you, you will be misty-eyed in pity at the same time seethe in anger, shocked at how humanity allows such inhumanity.
What has prevented the world, and this paper obviously, from universally condemning the Israeli Holocaust in the Gaza Strip is the fact that “the US and Israel are joined at the hip,” as a now often used vivid expression. The US has given Israel an astounding $158 billion since World War II, without which that state built on a people’s superstition would have been buried long ago by its powerful Arab neighbors. Since the war on Gaza started, the US has given Israel $25 billion in aid.
Much of American aid to Israel has been in the form of payments for military equipment, for its air force and army. It is, of course, another case of the military-industrial complex driving US foreign policy.
Joining
But the joining at the hip goes deeper. Jewish elites — many of Europe’s richest who fled Nazi persecution before World War II — have controlled American politics, finance and media, and no president can go against the US embrace of Israel. Despite all of the American press’ claim of upholding the freedom of the press, the Jewish elites still hold American media by the balls.
The independent TV news outfit Democracy Now! and the Qatar-funded Al Jazeera almost daily open their news broadcasts with videos of Gaza being bombed. Very seldom now would mainstream NBC, ABC, MSNBC, and even CNN, show a video of the carnage at the Gaza Strip. See for yourself. MSNBC commentators Joy Reid, Ayman Mohyeldin and Mehdi Hasan were fired for questioning the network’s pro-Israel bias, with most of US media cowering in fear that they have internalized the Israeli propaganda.
The world won’t be a peaceful place because of Israel. Fluss’ “light to the nations” will be the curse to the nations: the descendants of the 50,000 and more killed in Gaza will be the mujahadeen, the suicide bombers in our lifetimes.
