Hey Arnold: 10 Duos Who Should Have Been Friends (But Weren’t)
It was apparent that Hey Arnold was one of the best Nicktoons of all-time. This was due to the fact that it not only was quite humorous, but it did a magnificent job of portraying the hardships of life. Thus, even though the series was episodic, it allowed its characters to develop quite nicely in the process. For example, characters who once had conflict sometimes even became friends later down the road. The series did a great job when it came to this element.
Yet, there were plenty of potential friendships that the series sadly did not dive into. It was disappointing, as there were a plethora of characters who actually could have meshed well if they had been given the chance to. That's not to say that the series was negatively impacted by this, but rather, it could have been quite intriguing if they explored them. Taking a deeper dive into this makes it abundantly clear.
10 Arnold And Park
Arnold seemed to have interactions with just about every side character. Yet, when it came to Park, they never actually had any storylines together. When Park spoke, he seemed to be a nice kid, so perhaps these two could have meshed well as friends.
Arnold seemed to never have conflict with anybody, unless he was the one being bullied. Park didn't come across as a mean person whatsoever, so it would have made sense if they gave these two some time together.
9 Curly And Brainy
Curly and Brainy should have been friends, as they were both extremely strange. Curly was definitely the louder of the two, but Brainy spent most of his time on the show following Helga around.
Curly also was far more rambunctious, but Brainy would have made a strong sidekick for his wacky adventures. It certainly seemed like the show a missed opportunity, as these two together could have been comedy gold.
8 Ernie And Principal Wartz
Ernie and Principal Wartz could have been a good pair. They both were a bit cold, but also rough when they had to be. The two of them did share an interaction together in the school, and it went quite well.
There was certainly potential for these two to have an ongoing storyline together. They were pretty similar in personality and both adults. Having more stories for Principal Wartz outside of school would have been awesome too.
7 Sid And Lorenzo
Lorenzo's time on the show was short, as he was primarily used in the background and did not have lines after his episode. This was disappointing, as he was definitely a unique character who slowly learned how to be a true kid.
Pairing him up with Sid could have been cool. Although Stinky was Sid's best friend, perhaps his cool personality could have worked well with Lorenzo's uptightness. Lorenzo seemed to be closest with Arnold, but it would have been nice to see him branch out a bit too.
6 Gerald And Iggy
Iggy was deemed as the coolest kid in class until the bunny pajamas incident. It was a shame that the backlash from this disliked episode resulted in Iggy not being used anymore. It could have been awesome if they linked him up with Gerald.
Gerald was definitely one of the coolest kids out of Arnold's friends, so this pair made sense, had it actually occurred. Now, that wouldn't have meant that Iggy replaced Arnold as Gerard's best friend, of course.
5 Helga And Patty
Patty and Helga had the tools to be very good friends. They had their conflict at the beginning of knowing one another, but they resolved it. The two of them were tough and even shared a unibrow, which made them even more similar.
These two would have been a powerful pair as friends, as nobody would have been able to bother them. It also could have been a bit dangerous for those who they did not like, so maybe it worked out that they didn't spend too much time together.
4 Wolfgang And Harold
Speaking of bullies, it was rather strange that Wolfgang and Harold did not become friends. Wolfgang certainly despised 4th graders, but Harold was actually far older than the rest of his classmates.
Harold also was a major bully during the beginning of the series, so it would have made sense if these two became close. In fact, it could have been a funny dynamic if Harold became a minion of Wolfgang's.
3 Rhonda And Ruth
Ruth and Rhonda should have been friends, as they both seemed to appreciate fashion and were considered popular. Ruth was older, but Rhonda could have used her as a mentor to become even cooler in class.
Aside from being Arnold's original love interest, Ruth did not have much else to do on the show. Thus, had the show given her more of a purpose by making her friends with Rhonda, it could have helped her impact on the series.
2 Phoebe And Nadine
Phoebe and Nadine were the best friends of two people who did not appreciate them. They both seemed to be the nicer out of their best friend duos, so it was shocking that they did not form a healthy friendship together.
Phoebe was relentlessly bossed around by Helga, while Nadine was often mocked for her interest in bugs by Rhonda. Since these two also seemed to be into the sciences, they could have bonded with one another quite easily.
1 Dino Spumoni And Mr. Hyunh
Dino Spumoni was the king of swing, while Mr. Hyunh was an overnight country star. Although Mr. Hyunh left the music business and focused on the simple things of life, these two could have worked well together over their love for music.
In fact, these two could have even held a concert together. The mix of their outstanding singing voices could have been a huge hit for the series. Yet, none of this came to fruition sadly. It could have brought upon some truly interesting and memorable moments, to say the least.
